WOM Launches Chile’s FTTH Service in Record Time During Pandemic with Alepo’s AAA Server

How Chile’s innovative telecommunications company deployed Alepo’s broadband AAA solution to achieve 6x subscriber growth in first quarter despite global travel restrictions.

The Challenge: Pandemic-Driven Opportunity

WOM, Chile’s pioneering telecommunications company known for 4G voice services and VoWiFi innovation, recognized an urgent opportunity during pandemic lockdowns when demand for high-speed internet services surged. With most people working from home, WOM wanted to rapidly enter Chile’s FTTH market despite global travel restrictions threatening indefinite delays.

The operator needed to overcome logistical challenges while quickly establishing infrastructure for reliable, high-speed fiber services.

The Vision: Rapid Market Entry

WOM envisioned swift FTTH service launch offering speeds up to 1 Gbps with comprehensive digital customer experience including 24/7 remote support, seamless online payments, and advanced monetization capabilities to maximize ROI in the competitive Chilean market.

The Solution: Remote-Deployed Broadband Platform

WOM partnered with Alepo to deploy a comprehensive solution despite travel restrictions:

  • Broadband AAA Server: Complete platform facilitating high-speed postpaid and prepaid unlimited data plans with fair usage packages, comprehensive BI reporting for customer insights, and flexible policy framework ensuring full service monetization.
  • Innovative Implementation: Alepo provided temporary virtual machine infrastructure enabling immediate service launch while hardware was being delivered, allowing traffic migration to permanent infrastructure once logistics permitted.
  • Advanced Features: Custom authentication rules through high-performance scripting engine, comprehensive usage monitoring, and support for multiple service types including prepaid/postpaid, volume-based, group/family, time-of-day, and FUP plans.
  • Digital Customer Experience: Complete online purchase capabilities with captive portal redirection for automated customer experience, reducing customer care dependency while improving service accessibility.

The Results

  • 6x Subscriber Growth: Between first and fourth month of launch, WOM achieved sixfold increase in subscriber count, demonstrating strong market acceptance and competitive positioning.
  • Pandemic Delays Averted: Innovative VM infrastructure approach enabled June 2020 service launch despite hardware delivery delays, with seamless October migration to permanent infrastructure once logistics normalized.
  • Strong Market Recognition: High-speed FTTH service helped WOM rapidly expand broadband presence in Chile, meeting ongoing market demands for fast, stable residential internet while raising customer satisfaction significantly.
  • Exceptional Growth Projections: WOM expects 500,000 subscribers within first year and up to 1.5 million by end of 2023, demonstrating sustainable growth trajectory.

The Impact

WOM’s success demonstrates how innovative technology partnerships can overcome even extraordinary challenges like global pandemics while achieving rapid market entry and sustainable growth. The flexible deployment approach enabled immediate service launch while building robust long-term infrastructure.
